Thank you for visiting this page of our website. We hear the question all the time…How can I know I am going to heaven when I die? That is a good question to ask. It is very important that you ask the question and get the answer before death takes you or you get so sick you are not able to make a decision to trust the Lord. I came to know the Lord Jesus as my Saviour when I was nearly 14 years old. I had heard much of the work of Jesus on the cross, but never had personally trusted Christ until then. I was attending a country church in Iowa called Wheelerwood Community Church, located Northwest of Mason City, Iowa. It was a little church where the community people taught the Sunday School and a visiting preacher came once every month or six weeks to preach. We had a young pastor come into the area and begin to preach each week. I learned from this Bible preaching that I needed to be “saved” and on January 24, 1954, I received Jesus Christ as my Saviour. I will never forget that wonderful night when the Lord came into my heart and my life was changed by the power of the Holy Spirit. I did nothing but believe in the Lord Jesus and the work of the cross.
I would like to walk you through the simple plan of salvation. If you have not yet believed in Christ, this will show you how to be saved and know your sin is forgiven. If you have already been saved, it will encourage you in your walk with the Lord.
Jesus said in John 3 to the man Nicodemus that he need to be “born again.” John 3 gives the bible account of the discussion between Jesus and Nicodemus. Being born of the flesh is when you get born into this world. It is your birthday! That is how you get into this world. To go to heaven or God’s world, you need to be born of the Spirit. This born of the spirit is a spiritual birth, and like your birthday is when you are born into the World, you have been born into heaven when you are born of the spirit. My physical birthday was January 24, 1954, when I accepted Jesus as my Saviour. My physical birthday, when I was born to my parents was February 1st, 1941. Once we see the importance of the new birth, then we can move ahead to see how we bet born of the spirit. Many, unbiblical think that you get to heaven by membership or baptism. I have a gospel tract on this site called the “Grace Way.” Read it and it will help you understand what we mean by “saved by grace.”
In order to be born again, we must see our need. The first need we need to acknowledge is that we are sinners. Don’t be offended by this. Being a sinner is honest. A child easily is shown that he or she is a sinner. They readily admit of doing wrong, stealing, lying, disobeying. We adults know we are sinners, we just don’t want to admit it. Once you admit you are a sinner, then Romans 3:23 is not so bad. It says: For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God; This simply means, we can measure up to the requirements of God. Because of our sin, the wages of sin, what we have earned (wages) and we deserve is death. The Bar None Brand tells the story of what God has done for us. This truth is found in Rom 6:23: For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. We don’t have much chance because nothing we can do will present us holy before God. That is why Jesus Christ was born, lived and was crucified for our sins. He lived a holy life, was our substitute for our sin. When we trust Him and the work of the cross, then we can enter into the very presence of God, clean and holy. The gift of God, this verse says, is ETERNAL LIFE but it is through Jesus Christ our Lord. I can give you eternal life. I can however, offer you Jesus Christ. When you call on him to be your Saviour, then you get as a fringe benefit of believing in Christ, heaven or eternal life. When you say… “I am a sinner and I do believe that Jesus died for my sin and I take him as my Saviour”… then God gives you Eternal Life.
Read what God says here: Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. 12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. 13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
What a wonderful promise these verses give. When you and I call on the Lord Jesus, he gives us peace with God and eternal life. If you want to trust Christ, here are three things to remember:
I call it the ABC’s of Salvation. A…Acknowledge you are a sinner. B…Believe that Jesus died and rose again for your sin. C…Call (in prayer) on the Lord to save you. Here is a simple prayer that you might want to say or put into your own words. If you pray in sincerity, acknowledging the three things above, according to the passage in Romans, we are saved.
Sample Prayer: Dear Lord, I believe that I am a sinner, I do believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross to saved me from my sin and rose again proving that he was God. I ask him to be my personal saviour and put my trust in him as my personal Saviour. Thank you for saving me. AMEN.
If you do this, please let us know so we can pray for you and help you to grow in your spiritual life.
